Pan 40 Tablet is a prescription medication used to treat various conditions related to excess stomach acid. It is a type of medicine known as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI).

Active Ingredient:

The active ingredient in Pan 40 Tablet is Pantoprazole (40 mg).

How it Works:

Pantoprazole works by blocking the "proton pump" in the cells of the stomach lining. This pump is the final step in the production of stomach acid. By irreversibly blocking its action, Pantoprazole significantly reduces the amount of acid the stomach produces. This helps to relieve symptoms, heal existing damage, and prevent further issues caused by acid.

Uses:

Pan 40 Tablet is primarily used for the treatment of:

  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or Acid Reflux: It is effective in relieving symptoms like heartburn, chest pain, and a sour taste in the mouth. It also helps in healing the damage (erosive esophagitis) that acid reflux can cause to the esophagus.

  • Peptic Ulcer Disease: It helps to heal and prevent ulcers in the stomach (gastric ulcers) and the first part of the small intestine (duodenal ulcers).

  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: This is a rare condition where a tumor causes the stomach to produce an excessive amount of acid. Pan 40 helps to control this overproduction.

  • Prevention of Ulcers: It can be used to prevent stomach ulcers and acidity that may be caused by the long-term use of certain painkillers (NSAIDs).

Important Considerations:

  • Prescription Required: Pan 40 Tablet is a prescription medication and should only be taken as directed by a doctor.

  • Administration: It is typically taken once a day, preferably in the morning, on an empty stomach (about one hour before a meal) for maximum effectiveness. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and not be chewed, crushed, or broken.

  • Side Effects: Common side effects may include headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence, and dizziness. With long-term use, there is an increased risk of weak bones (osteoporosis), and low levels of vitamins and minerals like Vitamin B12 and magnesium.

  • Precautions:

    • Do not stop taking the medication abruptly without consulting your doctor, as this can lead to a return of symptoms.

    • Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially liver problems.

    • Avoid alcohol and smoking, as they can worsen your symptoms and reduce the effectiveness of the medication.

    • Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.

  • Long-Term Use: If you need to use Pan 40 for an extended period, your doctor may advise you to take calcium, magnesium, or Vitamin B12 supplements.
