Pan-D Capsule is a prescription medication used to treat conditions related to excess stomach acid and delayed stomach emptying. It is a combination drug that provides a dual action for comprehensive relief.

Active Ingredients:

Pan-D Capsule contains two active ingredients:

  1. Pantoprazole (40 mg): This is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by blocking the "proton pump" in the stomach lining, which is the final step in acid production. By doing so, it significantly reduces the amount of acid the stomach produces.

  2. Domperidone (30 mg): This is a prokinetic agent and an anti-emetic. It works by increasing the movement of the stomach and intestines. This helps food and acid move more easily through the digestive system, preventing acid from refluxing back into the esophagus (food pipe). It also helps to relieve symptoms like nausea and vomiting.

Uses:

Pan-D Capsule is primarily used to treat:

  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Also known as acid reflux. It helps to relieve symptoms like heartburn, chest pain, and indigestion by reducing stomach acid and promoting the forward movement of food.

  • Dyspepsia (Indigestion): It helps to manage symptoms of indigestion like bloating, nausea, and discomfort by improving stomach motility.

  • Stomach and Duodenal Ulcers: By reducing stomach acid, it helps to heal existing ulcers and prevents new ones from forming.

  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: A rare condition where a tumor causes the stomach to produce excessive amounts of acid.

Important Considerations:

  • Prescription Required: This is a prescription medication and should only be taken under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

  • Administration: The capsule is typically taken on an empty stomach, usually 30-60 minutes before a meal, for maximum effectiveness. It should be swallowed whole with water; do not chew, crush, or break the capsule.

  • Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

    • Headache

    • Diarrhea

    • Nausea

    • Stomach pain

    • Dry mouth

    • Dizziness With long-term use, there is an increased risk of weak bones (osteoporosis), and a deficiency of Vitamin B12 and magnesium.

  • Precautions:

    • Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially liver or kidney disease.

    • Avoid alcohol and smoking as they can worsen acid reflux symptoms.

    • Tell your doctor about all other medications you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.

    • Do not stop taking the medication abruptly without consulting your doctor, as this may cause a rebound effect and a worsening of symptoms.

    • This medication is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed by a doctor who has weighed the potential benefits against the risks.
