Amlovas 2.5 Tablet is a prescription medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (chest pain).

Active Ingredient:

The sole active ingredient in Amlovas 2.5 Tablet is Amlodipine (2.5 mg). Amlodipine is a medication belonging to a class known as calcium channel blockers.

How it Works:

Amlodipine works by:

  • Relaxing blood vessels: It inhibits the flow of calcium into the smooth muscle cells of the blood vessel walls. This causes the blood vessels to relax and widen (vasodilation), which reduces the pressure on the arteries, making it easier for blood to flow. This action directly contributes to lowering blood pressure.

  • Reducing the heart's workload: By improving blood flow and reducing pressure, it lessens the strain on the heart. This also helps to prevent and relieve angina (chest pain) by increasing the supply of oxygen to the heart muscle.

Key Uses:

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): It is used to lower and manage high blood pressure, which in turn reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, strokes, and kidney problems.

  • Angina Pectoris (Chest Pain): It is used to prevent episodes of chest pain, particularly in stable and vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina.

Important Considerations:

  • Prescription Required: Amlovas 2.5 Tablet is a prescription medication and should only be taken under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

  • Dosage and Administration: The dosage is determined by your doctor based on your condition. It is typically taken once daily, with or without food. It is best to take it at the same time each day to maintain a consistent level of medication in your body. Do not stop taking the medication abruptly without consulting your doctor, as this can lead to a sudden and dangerous increase in blood pressure.

  • Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

    • Swelling of the ankles or feet (edema)

    • Headache

    • Dizziness or lightheadedness

    • Fatigue

    • Nausea

    • Flushing (a feeling of warmth or redness) Most of these side effects are mild and tend to resolve with time.

  • Precautions:

    • Alcohol: Caution is advised when consuming alcohol as it can increase dizziness and further lower blood pressure.

    • Medical Conditions: Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially low blood pressure, heart failure, or severe liver disease.

    • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is generally not recommended unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks.

    • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking to avoid potential interactions.

    • Grapefruit Juice: Avoid consuming grapefruit juice, as it can increase the concentration of amlodipine in the blood and lead to an increased risk of side effects
