Geminor M1 Tablet is a combination medication used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It is not for Type 1 diabetes.
Active Ingredients
Geminor M1 contains a combination of two oral anti-diabetic drugs:
-
Glimepiride (1 mg): This belongs to a class of drugs called sulfonylureas. It works by stimulating the pancreas to produce more insulin, which helps to lower blood sugar levels.
-
Metformin (500 mg): This is a biguanide. It works in three main ways:
-
It reduces the amount of glucose (sugar) produced by the liver.
-
It delays the absorption of glucose from the intestines.
-
It increases the body's sensitivity to insulin, allowing cells to use glucose more effectively.
-
How it Works
By combining these two medications, Geminor M1 offers a dual-action approach to managing blood sugar levels, which can be more effective than using either drug alone, especially when diet and exercise are not enough to control the condition. It helps improve overall blood sugar control and reduces the risk of long-term diabetes-related complications such as kidney damage, nerve problems, and eye issues.
Important Precautions and Side Effects
-
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): This is a common and serious side effect, especially if you are taking other anti-diabetic medications, miss a meal, or consume alcohol. Be aware of the symptoms (sweating, headache, dizziness, shaking) and always have a quick source of sugar (like candy or fruit juice) with you.
-
Lactic Acidosis: This is a rare but very serious side effect associated with metformin. Symptoms include unusual muscle pain, difficulty breathing, stomach pain, dizziness, or feeling cold. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience these symptoms.
-
Other common side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, and a metallic taste in the mouth. These often improve over time.
-
Drug interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as Geminor M1 can interact with a variety of other drugs.
-
Alcohol: Avoid consuming alcohol while on this medication, as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia.
-
Medical Conditions: This medication should be used with caution in patients with liver, kidney, or heart problems.
-
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
