Voglimac GM 1 Tablet
Voglimac GM 1 Tablet is a combination medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is typically prescribed when diet and exercise, along with a single oral anti-diabetic medication, are not enough to effectively control blood sugar levels.
Active Ingredients
This tablet combines three different anti-diabetic medications, each with a unique mechanism of action:
-
Glimepiride (1 mg): A sulfonylurea that works by stimulating the pancreas to produce more insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body's cells absorb glucose from the bloodstream.
-
Metformin (500 mg): A biguanide that works in several ways. It primarily reduces the amount of glucose produced by the liver, decreases the absorption of glucose from the intestines, and improves the body's sensitivity to insulin.
-
Voglibose (0.2 mg): An alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that slows down the digestion of carbohydrates in the intestines. This helps to prevent a sharp spike in blood sugar levels after meals.
Uses
Voglimac GM 1 Tablet is used to:
-
Control blood sugar levels: It helps to maintain blood glucose within a healthy range, preventing both hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and its associated symptoms like frequent urination and increased thirst.
-
Prevent long-term complications: By effectively managing blood sugar, it helps reduce the risk of serious long-term complications of diabetes, such as kidney damage, nerve damage, vision problems, and cardiovascular issues like heart attacks and strokes.
-
Improve insulin sensitivity: The combination helps the body's cells to respond better to the insulin it produces.
Dosage and Administration
-
Always take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dose may be adjusted over time based on your blood sugar levels.
-
It is typically taken orally, with or immediately before a meal, to reduce stomach upset and help control the post-meal rise in blood sugar.
-
Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet. Swallow it whole with a glass of water.
-
Do not stop taking the medication suddenly, even if you feel well, without consulting your doctor. Abruptly stopping can cause a sharp increase in blood sugar.
Side Effects
As a combination of three active ingredients, Voglimac GM 1 Tablet can have a variety of side effects.
Common side effects:
-
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), especially if you skip meals, over-exercise, or drink alcohol. Symptoms include sweating, dizziness, headache, and shakiness.
-
Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or other stomach discomfort.
-
Headache.
-
Taste changes.
Serious but rare side effects:
-
Lactic acidosis: This is a rare but life-threatening condition associated with Metformin. Symptoms include unusual muscle pain, difficulty breathing, stomach pain, dizziness, and a feeling of being cold. It requires immediate medical attention.
-
Liver problems: Symptoms may include yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine, or unusual stomach pain.
Important Precautions
-
Medical History: Inform your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have liver or kidney disease, heart problems, or a history of pancreatitis.
-
Hypoglycemia: Be aware of the signs of low blood sugar and carry a fast-acting source of glucose (like candy or fruit juice) with you at all times.
-
Alcohol: Avoid or limit alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of low blood sugar and lactic acidosis.
-
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: This medication is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
-
Diet and Exercise: This medication is most effective when used alongside a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight management as advised by your doctor.
