Dexona Tablet is a medication that contains the active ingredient dexamethasone. It belongs to a class of medicines called corticosteroids, which are synthetic versions of hormones naturally produced by the adrenal glands.

Uses

Dexona is a powerful anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant drug. It is used to treat a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Inflammatory Conditions: It is effective in reducing inflammation in various parts of the body, such as in arthritis, asthma, inflammatory bowel diseases (like ulcerative colitis), and allergies.

  • Autoimmune Disorders: It helps manage conditions where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own tissues, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and certain skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.

  • Severe Allergic Reactions: It can be used to treat severe allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock.

  • Certain Cancers: It may be used as part of a treatment regimen for some types of cancer, particularly in blood disorders and multiple myeloma.

  • Adrenal Gland Disorders: It can be used as a replacement for the natural hormone when the body is not producing enough of it.

  • COVID-19: In some cases, it is used for hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 who require supplemental oxygen or a ventilator.

Like all medications, Dexona can cause side effects. The risk and severity of side effects often depend on the dose and duration of treatment.

  • Fluid retention (swelling in the hands or ankles)

Important Information

  • Do not stop abruptly: It is crucial to never stop taking this medication suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms. The dosage must be tapered off gradually under medical supervision.

  • Immune system: Dexona suppresses the immune system, making you more susceptible to infections. You should avoid contact with people who are sick and report any signs of infection (fever, sore throat) to your doctor.

  • Other medical conditions: Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially diabetes, high blood pressure, heart, kidney, or liver problems, as these can affect how the medicine works or increase the risk of side effects.

  • Dosage: The dosage and duration of treatment are determined by a doctor based on your specific condition and response to the medicine. Follow their instructions carefully.
